I smiled back because smiling is sometimes the only way to stop yourself crying.
Title: It Only Happens in the Movies
Author: Holly Bourne
Genre: Romance, Teen Fiction
Wow… this fast-paced story features the full-of-flaws romance of reality. I’m so glad it didn’t have to be a super cliché lovey-dovey romance story. This is DEFINITELY one of the best and most relatable books I have read, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

THE WRITING
Holly Bourne is quite new to me. This is her first book that I’ve read. However, I’m not going to lie when I tell you how incredible her writing style is. She wrote the book with so much emotion that I could literally feel that emotion bloom in me as well. I was sad and furious and pitiful whenever she brought up Audrey’s family issues. And whenever Harry cracked a joke or tried his “ninja moves” on Audrey… well expect to hear a VERY unattractive laugh from me. Holly Bourne did an awesome job. A very talented writer for very talented characters.
THE PLOT
This book has a unique storyline. As I have said before, it doesn’t contain cliché melodramatic scenarios. Audrey had really made a point when she went into a fit about how romance films only featured the bright sides and happy endings and hid the inevitable hideous fights and unromantic stuff. It Only Happens in the Movies featured both and it was as realistic as any real-life relationship that ever happened. The story became flawless by pointing out the flaws of romance.
THE CHARACTERS
An emotionally traumatic yet talented actress, a brilliant heartthrob director with a dark past, kick-ass bestfriends, a divorced and depressed mother, an unfaithful husband, a crew of zombie actors including a bitch, and so much more… Harry and Audrey are perfect models of the teenagers of today. Dark history yet rich in love and humor, the characters of It Only Happens in the Movies are bound to take you on a truly cinematic adventure.
Reading this book was a fun experience for me. I will never look at romantic films the same way again!
As for the Filipino readers… there’s a surprise inside the book when you buy a copy exclusive for National Bookstore *wink*.
