Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for allowing me to receive an advance copy in ebook form. This does not affect my honest opinion.

It’s so easy to lose yourself in this tangle of mysteries and suspense, and find yourself hungry for more secrets. That’s how real suspense is supposed to be like. And somehow, this book is so good at giving us the feels, the chills, and the right amount of curiosity to keep us hunting for more hidden facts in each turn of the page.
The writing is excellent. The author firmly describes Tessa’s mental disorder as something that is actually connected to mental health, and not an over-exaggerated fear, as some authors tend to do. The multiple POVs are also expertly written, complete with the varying characteristics of the different characters. Concepts, thoughts, ideas, and events are conveyed in a satisfying manner. The adjectives are not too poetic, but not lacking either!
Speaking of characters, this book has one of the best ones I’ve ever encountered. Common sense, young minds, and they act and think exactly how a person would in a specific situation. They are also NOT the overreacting, swooning dead in-love characters we encounter in other books with romance.
The plot is interesting, mysterious, and suspenseful. Carefully written and avoided plot holes. Beware, readers, because the twists and turns of real suspense is coming to get you! The sequence of events flow smoothly.
I wouldn’t just compliment the author’s lovely writing, or the amazing characters, or the interesting plot. This book taught me meaningful lessons as well. That’s what I really love about Tell Me No Lies. Here, I’ll name one of what I’ve learned.
“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” Don’t judge people by how they treat you the first time. Don’t judge them by their outer appearance. Maybe the tough person who bullies you at school is secretly depressed by a family problem. Maybe the owner of the account you’re always bashing on social media is sexually abused. The point is, people, we all have a battles we’re facing, conflicts we’re too insecure to share. So don’t judge by what you initially know.
Tessa, the main character, also taught me that no matter how terrible our problems are, we only have the keep pushing, and one day we will see the light. Her character development throughout the duology is outstanding, and I notice how she gains courage, slowly but surely.
I have read so many suspense and mystery novels in my life. I braced myself for any flaws that I have encountered in many other suspense novels, but (thankfully) I found none. I loved every single page, word, and chapter of Tell Me No Lies by A.V. Geiger.
A.V. Geiger is an epidemiologist who spends far too much spare time on social media. By day, she studies women’s psychiatric and reproductive health. By night, she can be found fangirling, following people back, and photoshopping the heads of band members onto the bodies of unicorns. Her writing career began with celebrity fan fiction, and her work draws extensively on her own experiences with online fan culture. Her original teen fiction has received millions of hits on the story-sharing website Wattpad, ranking as #1 in the mystery-thriller genre. She lives in New Jersey with her husband and twin boys.
