My Review

OMG. I am in shock. I think Elise Kova has scarred me for life. I think I have extreme trust issues now. *calm down, self*

Chosen Champion makes Vortex Visions seem like a Dora the Explorer episode. I am going to be honest here, I was absolutely scared while reading this book. You know that feeling when you’re alone at night, out in public, and you get this nagging feeling that something is just not right, as if you are being watched? That’s how I felt while reading this book, especially on the last 50 pages. Oh gosh, I still can’t get over it.

Okay, I’ll start talking about the usual.

In my opinion, Vi has really improved since book one. She’s slowly exploring life outside the pampered princess world, and is starting to learn from her mistakes. Her powers in this book are a lot stronger too (wait till you read aout it) and she is even brave and confident enough to start experimenting and exploring the depths of her magic, though she still has a lot to learn and master.

Jayme and Ellene are the usual supportive friends, as well as Andru. I’m glad that another very important character made a first appearance on this book *wink wink*. Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the ball of swoon-worthyness that is Taavin? His social relationship with Vi definitely improved in this book.

I got to explore more of the Air Awakens world in this book. I haven’t finished Fire Falling yet so I’m quite new to this but I’ll say again that Elise Kova has created a masterpiece of a world: lush, vivid, and has such a rich culture and history.

The plot is a wild, bumpy ride. It is definitely not predictable, honestly I’m so scared for what’s to come! This makes it all the more fun though, and the thrill is definitely there. The storyline, paired with Kova’s writing, made me feel as though I was actually in the story itself, going on adventures with the crown princess of the Solaris Empire.

I really love Chosen Champion, I enjoyed reading it, it kept me on the edge of my seat and ended with a stunning BAAAMM that left a huge impact on my emotions afterwards. I am DYING to read the next book in the series. Keep an eye open for it!

I’m so glad you loved this book! The fact that the book genuinely made you feel scared is kinda selling me because I can count on one hand the books that have made me feel *actual emotions.* Also, that feeling when you’re walking alone at night is yikes! Great review!
